Speaking on the topic “Connections in Care: Cultural Awareness”: This session will cover helpful techniques for a care staff to use in providing sensitive, informed and culturally competent-care, a critical skill needed when dealing with all the diverse people in our society who deserve access to quality care. Learner will learn a model of cultural competence that can guide them to their own self-examination of one’s own cultural background, to seeking knowledge about other cultures that would help them in performing a culturally-based physical assessment and relaxing face-to-face interaction with patients from diverse backgrounds.

Speaking on the topic “Connections in Care: Conflict Resolution”: This session will cover a discussion on what conflict is. Conflict myths will be identified. All attendees will have the opportunity to participate in table talk and case studies. The take-away for all will be resolution techniques and tips that can be applied to daily practice.

Speaking on the topic “Connection in Care: Technology”: This session will cover the challenges we face with Social Media and how we respond to comments posted about our facilities. There will be personal examples shared (because actual stories are extremely beneficial since we can all relate to them). Attendees will be encouraged to talk about some of the Social Media issues they have addressed, and there will be discussion about how we all feel these comments should be handled per CMS grievance guidelines.

TAPS 2016 Working Conference Program

Nurses:
Houston Methodist is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing
Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Houston Methodist provides up to 9.58 total Continuing Nursing Credit for this activity. Participants must attend selected sessions in their entirety and complete the corresponding items on the evaluation tool.
(Total for Day 1 = 5 Total for Day 2 = 4.58 Total both Days = 9.58) Case Management/Social Work: Total for Day 1 = 5, 1 CEU for Ethics, Total for Day 2 = 3, total both days 8.
