TAPS is a non-profit organization which exists to provide professional development, networking opportunities, and resources to those who serve as patient advocates and other patient service professionals.  It is the only organization of it's kind in Texas and is affiliated with the Texas Hospital Association. TAPS is also affilliated and alligned with the Society for Healthcare Consumer Advocacy (SHCA), our counterpart national organzation.  This relationship helps us bring nationally recognized best practices to Texas and even to many of you in one of our eight regions. 

On August 5, 2009, CNN and CareerBuilder.com listed patient advocacy as one of "seven emerging jobs poised for growth."  TAPS recognizes this and is going to do what it takes to make sure today's advocates are prepared for tomorrow's new opportunities.  In April of 2009, at the annual SHCA conference, TAPS was recognized as the Chapter of the Year.  April 2010's conference ended with TAPS declared Chapter of the Year again, the first chapter to win the award a second time and two years in a row. We believe this demonstrates our professional commitment to helping patient advocates in Texas be among the best in the country!
